HFT’S Chy Keres respite centre at Tregadillett for adults with learning disabilities has recently received a grant of £5,000 from the Santander Community Plus Fund.
This funding will be used to develop a sensory room, creating a stimulating yet relaxing environment for the people that the centre supports.
Chy Keres supports around 50 people in total, with stays varying from one night a week, a weekend, or longer if requested.
The centre supports people to be as independent as possible, building their confidence and helping them to achieve their aspirations, whilst also encouraging them to access a wide range of activities within the community.
The staff and some of the guests at Chy Keres decided it would be a good idea to develop a sensory room, benefiting many of the people that stay with them.
The sensory room will include visual stimulation, such as bubble tubes, fibre optic curtains, and also physical stimulation such as swinging chairs and sensory toys.
Chy Keres now has sufficient funds to begin the development process of the sensory room, which is hoped to be in completion by the end of summer.
Chy Keres has also been fundraising towards the project through events such as a recent wine and wisdom evening that took place in October, a charity ball for adults with learning disabilities taking place in February, a donation from Launceston Rotary Club, a donation from Launceston Lions, and the more recent donation of £5,000 from Santander.
The adults using Chy Keres’ services and the staff are overwhelmed with the amount of support they have received from local businesses and their donations. Without their help and support, the sensory room wouldn’t be possible, and Chy Keres are very excited to begin the transformation.
