A RECENT article on a breakfast TV programme spoke about how few people even knew the names of their neighbours — many would venture to say that could be true in Bude, but is less likely.
This was proven recently when the Bude New Life Centre, in partnership with Age Concern and the Cornwall Community Foundation, laid on a special 'treat day' for senior citizens. Seniors who live in isolated circumstances were invited to apply to attend the day and through a lottery selection process (applications were oversubscribed) twenty four were invited to the day.
Transport was co-ordinated between minibus and cars, and the day commenced with a welcome coffee and biscuits followed by a 'get to know you' game, where the guests talked to each other about the most exciting place they had ever visited.
With an age range of 60-to-103-years-old, there were certainly many experiences — from the exotic to the exciting.
