The summer tennis season is well underway across the county and Bude Tennis Club are fully involved. There are five ladies' teams and three men's teams competing in leagues. The club also have a men's and a ladies' team competing in the National Club League.

The ladies have finished all their matches in the NCL. Rachael Stacey, Ann Mason, Amy Gill and Claire Cardoo played in their first match against Penzance. Ann and Amy played excellently to both win their singles rubbers. In the doubles Ann and Rachael were beaten by a very strong Penzance pair but Amy and Claire had a very long battle on their hands which they narrowly lost to the Penzance 2nd pair 10-8 in the 3rd set tie break.

The same team faced a strong Newquay team at home the following week. This match was somewhat swifter with Newquay winning all the rubbers, but at least they had Amy's yummy cakes to enjoy afterwards!

In the final match Bridget Funnell and Charlotte Polhill joined Amy Gill and Ann Mason to face Truro 'B'. Amy again won her singles and Bridget narrowly lost her's against a strong Truro player. Amy was obviously on a winning streak as she also won her doubles, playing with mum Charlotte. Truro won by four matches to two.

Playing their first match of the season at home Bude men's 'C' team narrowly lost 5-7. Each team won five sets and on adding games Looe were victorious by 38 games to Bude's 35 and therefore gaining the winners two points.

Richard Pearce and Norman Tucker won 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 and 6-3, 7-5. Mike Barnard and Roger Bosustow lost 6-2, 4-6, 0-1 and 1-6, 1-6.

Due to the NCL league, matches in the Premier league have only just started and Bude Ladies 'A' played Bude Ladies 'B' in their first match. Rachael Stacey and Penny Tilsey proved a formidable 1st pair for Bude 'A' beating Claire Cardoo and Amy Gill 6-2, 6-1 and Gretel Shaw and Wendy Ball 6-3, 6-3.

Gretel and Wendy had already had a long battle with the 'A' team's 2nd pair of Ann Mason and Rachel Drew eventually losing 4-6, 7-6, 0-1 (9-11) after two hours 15 minutes of play! Ann and Rachel decided they should have another long match against Claire and Amy, but this time the score line didn't go their way with Claire and Amy winning 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8). Bude 'A' 9, Bude 'B' 3.
