You asked for comments on the new 'sculptures' on Bude Canal (the 'Post', April 9) — I think they are hideous! I am a true local and have spoken to several other local people about these sculptures and so far not one person has said they like them. I would be very interested to know how much they cost?

Apart from the fact that they look so awful and out of place they are not safe for young children — there are gaps between the joins where youngsters could get their fingers, toes and, in places, feet jammed. The wood is rough and will easily splinter. What happened to health and safety this time?

The smaller structures further up along the canal are bad enough but at least they are not quite so prominent.

I am really disappointed that Bude has got something like this so wrong when something much more tasteful, local, useful and pleasing to the eye could have been put beside the canal, which is one of our town's greatest assets.
