A TROOP of scouts spent a day at Tesco — and came away with over £750!
The 26 East Cornwall Explorer Scouts spent all day on Saturday, April 15, packing bags for customers at the Tesco Callington store. The event, which raised £775, is part of the scout group’s campaign to raise enough money for a three-week trip to Nepal.
Organiser, Neil Carvell, thanked the store, saying it was ‘another good day for fundraising, with plenty of generous customers, many of whom wanted to chat about what we’re doing’.
During the expedition the teenaged scouts will work in a remote village, repairing the school which suffered damage in the 2015 earthquake and running some teaching sessions for the pupils.
“We will also be undertaking an eight day trek in the remote, ancient Kingdom of Mustang, which is high in the Himalaya near the Tibet border,” Mr Carvell said.
“There will be a total of 30 of us on the trip, 26 explorer scouts and four adult leaders. The scouts come from across the East Cornwall Scout District including Saltash, Liskeard, Callington, Menheniot, St Neot, Linkinhorne, Landrake and Stoke Climsland.
“The cost of the trip is approximately £3,000 per person, so a lot of money to raise. We’re also going to try and raise some money for the community project, so that we can really make a difference to the village.”
