THE Poppy Appeal 2015 for Camelford and Tintagel was kick started on Saturday (October 17).

Royal British Legion branch members assembled to prepare and stock the boxes ready for the Poppy Appeal, assisted by the 1st Camelford Scouts and parents who freely gave their time and the use of the scout hut to clean and sort more than 100 boxes and collecting tins ready for the appeal, which runs until November 11.

Julian Harman the area’s new Poppy Appeal organiser said: “Every year preparations, which start about three months before Remembrance Sunday, become harder as our members become older and it was decided to involve the younger members of our local community by getting them involved and when asked the scouts jumped at the chance and Scout leader Simon Rawlinson has been inspirational in helping and allowing the use of the scout hut, which reduced the process from two days to about five hours!”

All the scouts earned a poppy badge for effort.

Thanks were expressed to Proper Cornish of Bodmin for supplying pasties to feed the volunteers and also Bowood Park Golf Hotel, who kindly baked them.

On November 4 local branch members will be walking up Roughtor to lay a wreath on the 43rd Wessex Memorial.

This is open to any members of the public who should meet at Roughtor car park for a 10.30am departure.

Anyone interested in this or getting involved with the Poppy Appeal can ring Julian on 01840 213117.
