NOTHING can stop Holsworthy Scouts from scouting, even if they have to do it online.

On Monday, March 16, the 1st Holsworthy Scout Group were instructed to cease all face to face scouting, cancel all section meetings and any upcoming events — meaning no cream teas for Mother’s Day due to be served by Beavers and Cubs and no taking part in the international ‘Jambowlree’ bowling competition which everyone from Beavers to Explorers were due to take part and no St George’s day parade which is a big part in the scouting calendar.

Scout group leader Pauline Masters said despite the necessary cancellations the Scouts will continue, to the best of their ability. She said: “Instead in the few days since the announcement, our leaders have pulled together and we will continue scouting in any way we can until we can resume our section meetings.

“Badge challenge cards have been put online so our youth members can continue to earn their badges, and special weekly challenges will be set via our Facebook page. This week’s was to make three flowers entirely from recyclable materials for Mother’s Day and upload pictures to be judged to win an Easter egg.

“Next week we will run virtual bowling when everyone will be asked to upload videos of them bowling with the most imaginative equipment they can find. We are also planning a virtual sleepover and to take part in JOTI a special ‘Jamboree on the Internet’, where Scout members get to talk to others all over the world.”

She added: “Safe to say Scouting in Holsworthy will carry on INdoors until we can put the OUT back in scOUTing.”
