It was the official launch of speed watch on Tuesday, June 15, the Launceston Neighbourhood Team embraced this with several community speed watch teams working in their relevant areas and they also had the added bonus of having some coverage from BBC Spotlight.
Launceston Police had a team at Dutson Road, Pipers Pool and Daws House.
The community speed watch teams are run by volunteers, this is seen as a great way of empowering the people to tackle the issues that are important to them and affect their quality of life.
A school speed watch at Lewannick was also held, this involved the Year 6 pupils at Lewannick Primary School working in partnership with Launceston Police.
The children monitor the traffic in the village with a speed device.
If a vehicle is speeding, it is stopped and the children have a list of questions to put to the driver about why they were speeding in the village.
This makes more of an impact on the drivers and has a more lasting effect than issuing tickets.
School speed watch is way of building relationships between the children and the police at the same time educating the children on road safety issues.
On Wednesday, June 16, a speed watch was held with Tregadillett Girl Guides in the village, this was another successful way of engaging with local community groups.
