Port Isaac School may be small in size but it is huge in ambition and achievement. In our school good learning happens in a secure and happy environment and everyone takes pride in both our school and themselves. Our school is at the top of the village. The children are taught in three classes and we also have a nursery which is well attended by the three and four year old children from the village. Our teachers work hard to make learning challenging and enjoyable. We think that it is very important to give our children a good grounding in the basic skills when they start their school career. We believe that the best way to prepare our children for their adult life is to give them what they need as children. In our reception and nursery classes, subjects such as English, mathematics and art cannot be separated: young children learn in an integrated way and not in neat, tidy compartments. Our children spend a great deal of time outdoors where their learning is based on their play. One of their favourite activities is on their boat and they have great fun taking each other for rides, going fishing and rescuing sailors in distress. No doubt many of them will be future members of Port Isaac's lifeboat crew. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
