AT least 1,000 old faces – who have shaped Newent School and Sixth Form over the past 50 years – joined together on Saturday to reminisce.

Head Kirsten Harrison and members of staff welcomed former and current pupils to look back over the school's history through photographs to sportswear.

Ms Harrison said: "We welcomed over 1,000 past students over the course of a wonderful afternoon. I hope everyone enjoyed their return to the school.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved behind the scenes in making the day such a resounding success. Particular thanks go to Miss Pippa Palmer for her leadership in organising this tremendous event."

The Newent Grammar School was founded in 1925 and was sited at the crossroads in the building that is now the community centre. On April, 1 1965 Newent School was founded and moved into Gloucestershire's first purpose-built comprehensive school on its current site.
