A WONDERFUL day was had by the 140 children and adults who attended the Callington Santa Fun Run on Saturday, December 2.
Children’s charity CHICKS, who organised the event with the Rotary Club of Callington, would like to thank hosts Callington Bowling Club and main sponsor, Darren’s Cars.
Callington Portreeve, Mark Smith, kindly started the runners off and presented medals when they had completed the one mile route.
CHICKS is very grateful to everyone who took part in the fun run to raise money for the charity and to the many organisations who sponsored the event, provided assistance or gave donations of refreshments and various gifts.
CHICKS provides free respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over the UK, including many from different areas of Cornwall. The children are aged between eight and 15 and come from a variety of backgrounds. The children may be living in poverty, suffering from abuse or neglect or acting as young carers for sick or disabled family members. They may be the children of injured service personnel or looked after children who are in local authority care.
While the CHICKS season has drawn to a close, it is now looking forward to its Christmas break, ‘Snow Globe’, which will take place at the coastal retreat, in Cornwall. The children will enjoy a week of festive fun, with Christmas themed activities. A traditional Christmas Day is also planned, including stockings and presents under the tree, and a delicious home-cooked Christmas dinner.
