Eight-year-old Samuel Jennings of Bude Tennis Club recently competed in the Flybe Mini Tennis Finals, held at the Ivybridge Tennis Club in South Devon. Around 250 children played over the winter months in Devon and Cornwall tennis clubs, with the top eight from each county qualifying. The finals were split into four groups with the top two going through to the quarter-finals. Samuel's group was tight, with everybody beating everyone else but he managed to finish second – winning one match (10-5) and losing two (7-10 and 8-10). In the quarter-final Samuel played Oliver from Exeter Tennis Club and, in a very close match, just lost out 7-10. This was Samuel's first big tournament and he gained some good match experience. This year's Flybe tournament is already underway. Samuel has managed to win all seven matches he has competed so far and is well on the road to the finals again.
