FIVE intrepid members of Launceston Masters Swimming Club travelled to Portland to compete in the 22nd Valentine Masters Gala hosted by Weyport Masters.
This popular, and friendly sprint event, attracts swimmers form clubs throughout the Western and Southern Regions, and this year was no exception with 18 clubs being represented.
The five swimmers were:
Sally Hough competing for the first time in her new age group 60-64yrs, came second in all five events entered. In doing so she managed to rewrite the record book by attaining Cornwall County Masters Short Course records in 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backcrawl, 50m Butterfly, and 100m Individual Medley.
Chris Cole in the men's 55-59yrs age group, came second in the 50m Breaststroke, and fourth in the 50m Backcrawl, 50m Butterfly, and 100m Individual Medley.
Sharon Howell competing in her very first masters competition in the women's 50-54yrs age group, came first in the 50m Butterfly, 3rd in the 100m Individual Medley, and fourth in the 50m Freestyle.
John Rhodes in the men's 45-49yrs age group, came first in all four events entered: 50m Butterfly, 50m Backcrawl, 50m Breaststroke, and 100m Individual Medley.
Angela Leverton competing for the first time in her new age group 35-39yrs, came second in the 50m Backcrawl, 3rd in the 50m Freestyle, and 4th in the 50m Breaststroke.
