A RESIDENTS' association, which represents a large housing estate in Launceston, is to be dissolved because of dwindling support from the community.

Stourscombe Residents' Association (SRA), has announced that, following a special meeting of its committee last week, the group will disband in February.

SRA?chairman Les Whaley said decreasing levels of support from residents had made proceedings more difficult for the committee. But the lack of any candidates to take on his and vice-chair Peter Lawrence's roles after they announced they would be stepping down in November, proved the final straw.

Mr Whaley, who occupied the role since the group's establishment in June 2011 and remained in a temporary capacity after his resignation, said he was disappointed the committee was not given a greater opportunity to carry out the ideas proposed; more so given the extensive efforts put into obtaining grit bins on the estate, among other projects.
