THE commandment of Devon Army Cadet Force (ACF) Colonel Ashley Fulford recently visited the Holsworthy detachment to promote the Devon ACF Corps of Drums.

The cadets had an opportunity to try out some of the band’s instruments and also listen to a talk on the Crops of Drums, which represents Devon ACF at many public events across the county.

Colonel Fulford also made several presentations, which included adult first aid at work (FAW) certificates to three senior cadets — certification valued by employers.

Addressing the unit at final parade Colonel Fulford said: “It has been good to revisit a flourishing rural detachment, now one of the county’s biggest, and to make some well-earned presentations.

“Great enthusiasm is shown by the cadets for regular training activities and tonight they all demonstrated a willingness to get stuck in and try out new opportunities like the Corps of Drums.”

Army Cadets can access an opportunity to earn a BTEC diploma in music or public services with two GCSE passes. Along with the BTEC they can achieve FAW and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to add to their CV making them more employable.

Holsworthy ACF is open to young people aged 12 and up and will be holding an open evening on Thursday, April 18. From 7pm to 9pm at the youth centre for those young people and parents who would like to find out more.
