On October 12 at Holsworthy Community College on behalf of the Holsworthy Army Cadet Force, Sgt Rebecca Ede, received a cheque for £400 from Arthur Stewart of the Ruby Run committee. This was part of the sponsorship money raised by this year's half-marathon, which is being distributed to local good causes. This followed another presentation made two weeks previously by John Allen, the race organiser, accompanied by Arthur Stewart and Gary Bush of Hatherleigh who had travelled to Little Bridge House at Fremington to hand over a cheque for £2,500 to Ian Broome of Children's Hospice Southwest. Other local organisations to benefit are the Hatherleigh Play Area Project (£1,000) and the Holsworthy Youth Centre (£600) where, with the support of the police youth workers, Mark Singleton and Jodie Davey, offer young people a wide variety of activities and trips as, for example, recently to Mount Hawke Skate Park. John Allen said that this year they had decided to help organisations which provided for young people and were especially happy to see the involvement of the local police. In addition many other good causes had received donations direct from the runners.
