The 2010 Ruby Run held on Sunday, June 13 was a great success with over 350 competitors taking part.

The annual run from Holsworthy to Hatherliegh, around 13 miles, was started by Matt Woodley from BBC Radio Devon and the first runner over the finish line was Peter Hockin winning the run for the fourth time with a time of one hour sixteen minutes.

The first lady to finish was Jo Meek with a time of one hour 20 minutes and ten seconds.

The first male local runner was Andy Vallance (Inwardleigh, near Okehampton) in one hour twenty minutes and thirty four seconds and the first local female runner was Emma Squire (Holsworthy) with a time of one hour fifty three minutes and two seconds.

Age category winners for men were:

O/40 Chris Stone one hour 23 minutes and 27 seconds.

O/50 Steve Hay one hour 23 minutes and 32 seconds.

O/60 Mike Beattie one hour 30 minutes and 53 seconds.

Age category winners for the ladies were:

O/ 35 Jo Bedler one hour 40 minutes and seven seconds.

O/45 Sue Hewings one hour 44 minutes and 17 seconds.

O/55 Marilyn Cooper one hour 54 minutes and 58 seconds.

John Allen the race organiser praised the work of the many volunteer marshalls who did a splendid job manning the road junctions and water stations along the course and Dr Asad Al-Doori and his wife Sally along with St John Ambulance who provided the medical cover.

Once again, the winners' ruby glass trophies were given by Dartington Cystal from Torrington, Lamisell Beams sponsored the tee-shirts and Greenfield Engineering, Andigestion with many other local companies who contributed to the running costs of the event.

The beneficiaries from this year's run are the Devon Air Ambulance, who completed over 90 mission in the Holsworthy and Hatherleigh area during the last ten months and the Ruby Country Partnership who promote and support local businesses and tourism in the Ruby Country area.

The final amount raised is not yet known as sponsorship money was still being sent it, this can still be forwarded to John Allen care of Southbourne Cook Shop 17/18 Fore St, Holsworthy EX22 6EB.
