PRINCESS Alexandra’s recent visit to Camelford has been described as ‘superb’ by the town mayor.

The royal visited the town as part of a North Cornwall tour, which also included the artisan food village at Launcells and the Cornwall at War museum at Davidstow.

At the August 2 meeting of the town council, mayor Kirsty Ferguson said: “It was just a superb day, special for Camelford, for the council and library. It was just wonderful.

“She wanted to shake everybody’s hand. She just made everybody feel at ease.”

Cllr Ferguson said Princess Alexandra requested a photo of the plaque that she unveiled.

Letters of thanks will be going out to all the organisations that made the event a success.

Cllr Rob Rotchell said the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Edward Bolitho, and his deputy were amazed at the town’s response to the event.

“They’ve had events like that in much bigger places than Camelford and nobody turns up. Here, it was a community event.”
