CAMELFORD Rotary Club recently donated a cheque for £1,500 to Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Harbour hospice.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is a charity organisation providing care and support for more than 500 families in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

They provide hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions. The care offered is wide-ranging including respite and short breaks, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care. There are three hospices in operation; Little Harbour in Cornwall, Charlton Farm in Somerset and Little Bridge House in Devon.

The care services provided are only possible because of the wide support received. Funding is achieved through donations, fundraising events and charity shops.

To raise the money for this donation, Camelford Rotarian Laurie Unsworth organised an 18-mile sponsored walk in support of CHSW, from Padstow to the Snail’s Pace Café at Wenford Bridge, where a very welcome sit down and cup of tea was enjoyed by his fellow Rotarians and friends.

There is also a CHSW weekly lottery which is a great way to make a donation. Tickets can be bought in any of the charity’s 30 shops located around the South West. The lottery helpline is 08456 888 911.

Following the Rotary club visit to Little Harbour, Bill Dixon, president of Camelford Rotary Club, said: “My fellow Rotarians and I voted unanimously to make this donation of £1,500 because we all admire the wonderful support provided to families going through very challenging circumstances. Little Harbour is a superb facility which deserves everyone’s support.”

CHSW holds an open day once a month for visitors who wish to see the hospice facilities and meet the staff. There are no planned family visits on an open day so there will not be the usual laughter and hustle and bustle, but the tour will offer an insight into what life is like in the hospices.
