Around 100 family and friends from far and near joined Rosa Billing to celebrate her 100th birthday at Blisland Village Hall on June 16 with a traditional cream tea. Rosa was born in Blisland in 1909, the second daughter of Edward and Annie Philp who farmed at Carbaglet. Rosa has spent all her life in Blisland and always taken an active interest in village life, starting with the local drama and dancing groups in her younger years, and was one of the founder members of the WI. She was one of the group who raised the funds for building the original village hall, which was opened in 1929, and attended as a special guest at the re-opening after refurbishment and modernisation in 2005. Rosa has been a lifelong member of Blisland Methodist Chapel, where she was organist for 75 years. Rosa enjoys excellent health and had a wonderful birthday, and the family thanked everyone for helping to make it a great success, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
