LANTEGLOS Short Mat Bowling Club had another successful season, writes Francis Bennett.

On March 7 a Quiz Night was held at the club which coincided with birthday celebrations of club members.  Everyone attending enjoyed the evening, especially the food at the end but perhaps not all the questions.

Several friendly matches were played against local opposition which aided and abetted the rapport between bowlers and these were against Altarnun, Boscastle, Kensey Vale, St Breward, St Kew, Wadebridge and Withiel.

An afternoon friendly was held against St Tudy early in April and all the players, but much to the chagrin of the ground staff, witnessed a crop of button mushrooms which had appeared on the outdoor green!  More strangely was the fact that they had grown sitting on their own cocktail sticks!

On Saturday April 4, Grand National Day, the club held its own Race Evening. Your reporter, unable to attend, believes the horses were wooden cut-outs which had to be reeled in by hand!  Real high tech stuff. Stalwart of the club, Ron Shillaber, was champion jockey. I have heard since that there was some strange 'winding in' taking place. The evening finished with the usual refreshments and the presentation of the trophies, namely:

Winners

Fours: M Davey, M Iles, G Risdon and F Davey.

Triples: B Gardner, M Iles and G Risdon.

Pairs: R & S Flower; runners-up, C Parsons and T Goulbourne.

Singles: G Risdon; r-up, R Staple.

Congratulations to Ron and Margaret Shillaber for winning the Northern Area Pairs Competition.
