It is only nine months since the annual meeting, which took place last May, when members of the Coads Green WI were sitting socially distanced in a field.

Meetings have now returned to the chapel parlour with a general mood of optimism, the addition of five new members and an exciting programme planned for the forthcoming year

Secretary, Pat Mallett, took the theme of Valentine’s Day, as her inspiration, when she planned her origami workshop, as part of the meeting on Wednesday, February 9. All the materials were supplied to make colourful hearts, which could be threaded to make bunting, or handmade cards, for partners, husbands, cherished friends or family members.

The meeting was led by president, Daphne Tucker, who gave her report of the highlights of the year, which had included the sixtieth birthday celebrations. The current president and committee were re-elected, with the welcome return of former president, Linda Willan.

In the business part of the meeting, members were invited to join county-wide activities, including ‘Five Corner Crafting Days’, at three different venues. There was a good level of support for the Marshgate venue, on Monday, April 4, as Pat will offer origami as one of the five crafts, along with embroidery, card, bracelet and chocolate truffle making.

The meeting finished with a delicious supper provided by the committee, who had their photograph taken in front of the ‘President’s Honour Board’, where all the presidents over the last sixty years have been recorded, from the very first president, Jennifer Middleton, in 1962.

Celia Jennings and Jackie Stephens served the refreshments and Gerry Rennie won the raffle.

The renowned kayaker and photographer, Rupert Kirkwood, will be the speaker at the next meeting, which will take place in the chapel at Coads Green, on Wednesday, March 9, at 7.30pm. It will be an open meeting, with a charge of £3 for visitors, with refreshments provided.
