SONGFEST recently returned to Cornwall and had children ‘Rockin’ All Over the World’!
Once again the Cornwall Music Education Hub organised a county-wide celebration of singing for the schools of Cornwall in the form of Songfest.
The concert tour started with 240 strong massed children’s choir from 14 different schools performing at the Hall for Cornwall on February 28.
Since then hundreds more children have performed at the Princess Pavilions in Falmouth and also Launceston Town Hall.
The final concert for schools in the Penzance area was at Mounts Bay Academy on March 13 but there will also be a ‘Songfest Unplugged’ mini-concert in Torpoint today, Thursday, March 16.
This year’s programme, ‘Rockin’ All Over the World,’ focussed on music from around the globe, with songs in several different languages.
The first act at each of these concerts featured performances by students from local secondary schools, colleges and universities, as well as the Hub’s own County Choirs.
The choir was accompanied by a four piece band made up of professional musicians who also teach for the Cornwall Music Service Trust.
Songfest 2017 was organised and managed by the Cornwall Music Education Hub and devised by Angela Renshaw, the Hub’s vocal strategy lead, as part of an ongoing programme of vocal development taking place in schools across Cornwall, with the support of Patrick Bailey.
Angela said: “Songfest has shown some great achievements from all schools and colleges taking part this year.
“We are forging strong working links with schools through this programme of creative opportunity and it’s clear to see that all the pupils who have taken part have had a really great experience.”
At the Hall for Cornwall there were singers from Bude Junior School, Camelford, Marhamchurch, St Petrocs, Bude, and Wadebridge.
The event was compered by Daphne Skinnard from Radio Cornwall.
At Launceston Town Hall students from Launceston College, Coads Green, North Petherwin, South Petherwin, Blisland, Tregadillet and Trekenner were among those taking part.
