A FOREST landlady fears she will lose around £1,000 worth of trade if the road is closed today (Wednesday) for resurfacing.
Gloucestershire Highways and Amey said in a letter to residents in Moseley Green, near Parkend, that the work would take a day to complete.
Nikki Roach, at the Rising Sun Inn, argues the work doesn't need doing and that if the road closes it could mean her regulars will take their business elsewhere.
She said: "Wednesdays happen to be our busiest day in the week and we can take around £1,000 – if not more if it's sunny. It's not like our regulars can get to us from another road, we are in the middle of the work. I worry our regulars might not know the road is closed and go elsewhere.
"If people can't get to us then we will effectively lose a day's trade. The road isn't actually that bad, except for a little bumpy section, there are no potholes and I can think of other roads in the area which are more in need.
"I've contacted the Highways to ask if they can provide access for our customers and am awaiting a response."
Gloucestershire Highways say that access for customers will still be available.
Local Highways manager, Brian Watkins said: "Only the part of the road being worked on will be closed to all traffic, but to stop vehicles from getting stuck or having difficulty turning around, closure notices will be placed at each end as advanced warning to motorists.
"Residents living on the road will be able to access their homes apart from when work is taking place directly in front of their property. We appreciate people's patience while this essential work is being carried out."
• PLANS to resurface a notorious stretch of road will take place fom May 7 for two weeks.
Work on Forest Road, between Lydney and Whitecroft, was due to start last month but was postponed due to a 'change' in repair plans.
Local Highways manager, Brian Watkins said: "Next month we will be resurfacing the B4234 between Whitecroft and Norchard. The delay was due to a change in the way we plan our repairs. The road will be closed between May 7 and May 20 for the work to be carried out."
