DESPITE poor weather, RNLI lifeguards on Summerleaze beach in Bude were kept busy over the Easter weekend when they rescued three surfers and a body boarder caught in strong currents. Mini Fry, RNLI lifeguard supervisor for Bude explained what happened: "The mouth of the Bude Canal flows out through a steep channel on the left hand side of Summerleaze beach. As the tide comes in, the water surges towards the channel creating a strong current that can suck surfers and bathers into the deeper water and out to sea."
