RNLI Lifeguards and paramedics worked together to assist a woman who was suffering from a seizure at Widemouth last week.

The woman and her husband had not long arrived at Widemouth Bay at around 1pm, last Wednesday, July 13, when she suddenly had a seizure and collapsed.

RNLI lifeguards Ben Jarvis and Billy Roberts put their casualty care training in to use when they performed first aid and gave the casualty oxygen.

Meanwhile, lifeguard James Kivell was keeping an eye out on bathers in the water, to make sure they too were safe.

The paramedics were called and arrived at the scene to help take over from the lifeguards. The air ambulance then arrived and air lifted her to hospital.

Chris Wafer, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, said: “Our lifeguards, the paramedics and air ambulance worked really well together to assist the casualty. RNLI lifeguards are trained in casualty care for situations like these, and it pays off.

“We would always urge people to visit a lifeguarded beach where our teams will be happy to help and are on hand to offer friendly safety advice.”
