THE owner of Adventure International (AI) in Bude has revealed his team is struggling to provide its regular variety of activities, after Cornwall Council lowered the River Neet.

Keith Marshall claims the waterway's lack of depth means pursuits such as canoeing and kayaking haven't been possible this season, costing a great deal of money and tarnishing the reputation of the business.

The council, responsible for the river levels, says though it has to stay low for safety reasons. Following a review of the Port Marine Safety Code for Bude in the summer, the authority asked the Environment Agency not to raise the weir.

Each year around 7,000 children who visit the area on adventure holidays use AI and enjoy the activities provided.

When asked if people were at risk of losing their jobs there, Mr Marshall, who has run the business for 35 years, replied "yes, definitely."
