CHILDREN from North Petherwin and Werrington Schools led Rights Respecting schools roadshows at St Stephen’s and Windmill Academies last Thursday.

The roadshows included a range of activities, which provided information about Rights Respecting Schools and promoted putting the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child at the heart of every school.

Activities focused on different rights including the right to be safe (Article 19), the right to an education (Article 28) and the right to the best possible healthcare (Article 24).

North Petherwin and Werrington received the Rights Respecting School award, level one last summer.

They are now acting as ambassadors for Rights Respecting Schools, encouraging community groups and other schools to put the Convention for the Rights of the Child at the heart of everything they do.

North Petherwin and Werrington have recently joined St Stephen’s and Windmill as members of the An Daras Multi Academy trust.

This has provided opportunities for the children from the schools to work together, share their ideas and learn from each other.
