DANCE Academy students from Callington Community College recently delivered a workshop to a group of adults with special needs, at the Morley Tamblyn Centre in Liskeard.

In the run up to this, the dance students took part in some preparation sessions with Leroy Ward from Attik Dance. This enabled the youngsters to devise their own workshop to deliver to the adults.

Beforehand, the students were feeling quite anxious as none of them had ever experienced working in this environment. It took them out of their comfort zone in many ways, as it was challenging but so rewarding; watching them enjoy the movement they were creating. The main focus was on improvisation; contact work and solo work, creating shapes within the body.

The students felt honoured to have worked with these adults.

A college spokesman said: “Opportunities like this enable youngsters to have an open mind. The students could see the importance of bringing people from a broad spectrum of ages, abilities and experience, together to share the passion of dance.”
