On ten minutes Camelford were able to break from this onslaught through right winger, and eventual Man of the Match, Chris Clark. He off loaded beautifully in the tackle to Tim Williams and from the resulting ruck Tom Swale scored under the posts. Craig Thompson added the extras.
Saltash marched back to re-encamp and were efficiently breaking Camelford lines with bullocking runs by their outside centre and big forwards. They won a ruck on the right and the ball was fed to their strong running stand off who waltzed through to score a converted try. With the scores levelled at 7-7 Camelford were struggling to find their rhythm and control.
With 30 minutes played Aaron Chapman made a telling break through the centre to create an overlap. It was taken on by Will Baker whose perfectly timed pass enabled Clark to break the cover tackle and score out wide. An excellent conversion by Craig Thompson made it 14-7 to the "Ford".
This good passage of play seemed to galvanise the Camelford team into playing some better rugby. Debutant, Carl Culver, had been replaced after 20 minutes by Carl Walke whose greater bulk was helping the Camelford pack to gain more control, especially in the scrums.
Saltash responded well to this second Camelford try and once again put immense pressure on the home side's line. A try seemed inevitable only for a fantastic tackle to be made by Marcus Causton. Another break from deep in defence gained Camelford their third try. Tim Williams made one of his, now trade mark, dashes from a scrum 40 metres out setting Clarke up for his second try under the posts. With the conversion made Camelford were pleased to go into the break 21-7 in the lead.
With the slope and the wind behind them it was important that Camelford got their tactics right and the instruction was to put Saltash on the back foot at every opportunity. The game plan worked due to better scrummaging, excellent lineout work and some deep kicking.
Eight minutes into the half saw a strong break out of defence by Saltash's powerful centre, a move that had been breaking the Camelford line time and again. He was stripped of the ball by Williams who duly ran in from some 40 metres to record his 11th try of the season. The conversion hit the upright.
At this point Camelford had realised that they could pin Saltash back by kicking deep and following up. This proved highly successful for their next two tries. First from a free kick, deep in their own half, Scott Thompson benefited from following up his brother's high kick and he jinked his way to a converted try. Then Will Baker's kick, from his own 22, was followed up by Clark who sealed his hat-trick. Craig Thompson added the extras and Camelford found themselves 40-7 up.
James Cowling and Ashley Morgan came off the bench and Morgan was soon to make an impact playing in his preferred centre role making some telling breaks. It was No 8 Williams who was again to make his mark with another pick up deep in his own half. He broke a number of despairing tackles and fed the supporting Scott Thompson who cut back inside to score an excellent try.
By this stage the "Ford" were continually pushing Salts back and Morgan took advantage of some poor defence to bag a brace of tries. At 61-7 Camelford assumed their work had been done but Saltash rallied and kept the ball tight. They fed their big centre time and again and for the final ten minutes forced Camelford into some dogged defence.
The final result was excellent, but did little to indicate how well Saltash had played. Camelford had reversed the 49-0 drubbing they had received at Saltash last September.
