LAUNCESTON Town Square was host to a visit from the French Market last Friday (June 11).

The sun shone as market traders, mainly from Normandy, set up their stalls which included a vast selection of cheeses from various regions of France, and an array of different types of dried fruit from raspberries to mango strips.

The sausage stall was quite different to our British bangers – the varieties included buffalo, venison, boar and pheasant.

Lovely aromas filled the air, from not only the crepe stand but from the freshly baked baguettes and home made cakes.

To complement your baguette there was a good choice of goose, pheasant, boar and calvados infused pates, as well as plenty of different types of olives.

For the sweet toothed, there was Turkish Delight, fudge and baklavas.

People were also kept busy looking through scarves, handbags, jewellery and hand made soaps.

The market was well attended and traders made the shoppers welcome by offering samples of their cheese, nuts and cakes.

Anita White said: "The day was most enjoyable and hopefully Launceston will see the return of the French Market in the near future."
