THE return of Santa in the Square was hailed as a great success by the mayor and mayoress of Launceston.

In conjunction with the Christmas market, 85 children lined up to greet Santa. Led by Launceston Town Band, and kindly transported by Hawkins Motors, Santa arrived in the square at 2pm — much to the cheers and delight of the waiting youngsters.

Santa spoke to everyone in turn, and presented the children with a gift and a balloon.
