WHEELCHAIR users and parents with pushchairs can now access coastal walks near Tintagel thanks to improvements by the National Trust.

The trust recently completed a project making significant improvements to the coastal access at Glebe Cliff, Tintagel. The popular section of coast offers far-reaching views over The Island and Tintagel Castle as well as towards Pentire Head to the south.

Existing paths and roads had deteriorated over time, making access to both the trust's car park and the wider cliff area difficult to navigate. The byways have been upgraded to provide better vehicle access and the outer cliff path surface is now suitable for mobility vehicles and pushchairs.

Resident David Flower said the walks are part of village history. He said: "Many Tintagel residents and visitors to the area are very pleased to see the work recently carried out on the cliff paths in the vicinity of the church and the youth hostel.

"These walks, which many have striven over the years to maintain, are such an important part of the history of the village, reflecting the quarrying activity. It is now possible for all to access that part of the beautiful cliffs with their stunning scenery.

"The road from Trevillick ,which goes to the cliff, has been repaired. The track to the car park on the edge of the cliffs with such a wonderful view overlooking Port Isaac and beyond is now available for Tintagel residents, including the disabled, to enjoy. The National Trust is to be commended for the action it has taken."
