A GROUP of residents from Launceston are planning to make their views heard during the planning process on the future of a landmark town hotel. Around 30 people were at a meeting last week in Launceston Football Club's clubhouse to discuss the proposal to change the use of Eagle House Hotel to a residence. Brian Jordan, who chaired the meeting, said: "Everyone has a right to do what they want with their property and everyone has a right to object. "I think it is the decimation of Launceston. A good old Georgian town is being destroyed and the Eagle House is another part of that. That's why I'm here, to stop or slow it down or get more time to think about it." Rob Tremain said he was at the meeting with his 'Rob Tremain hat on and not my town council hat'. He said he was looking for ideas on how to put the case against the proposal. "I can't say what the town council will say but I've got an idea," he said. He then read a statement of comments he has submitted on the planning application on Cornwall Council's website, and added: "It would be a huge loss for the town if it is turned into a private dwelling. There are only neighbours on one side of the building." For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
