THE community of Tintagel extended their thanks to the village postmaster, Mick Goward, his wife Gill and their daughter, Jackie Burnard, for all their work in the village over the years.

As previously reported in the 'Post,' Mick and Gill took the difficult decision to retire from the Post Office after 26 years at the end of February.

Jackie decided to keep the office running for another month so that local residents would continue to have the service in the village until alternative accommodation was obtained.

Her final day was on Wednesday, March 31, and members of Age Concern Tintagel were there to present her with a number of gifts to show their appreciation.

She received an Easter flower basket and chocolate egg, which she shared with her daughter.

Jackie extended sincere thanks to everyone who contributed towards her gifts.

This presentation followed a tea party, held at the King Arthur's Arms Hotel, Tintagel on February 24 at which about 100 people were present to say a personal thank you to the family.

On behalf of the community, a presentation was made of a Stuart crystal sherry decanter with silver label and accompanying bottle, together with a delightful watercolour of Tintagel Old Post Office by local artist Thelma Dorman.

Suitable cards bearing good wishes and a 'good companion' walking stick to aid Mick's recovery from his imminent hip surgery was also handed over.

Mick made a speech to thank everyone; the ladies received bouquets of flowers and Jackie was given a momento of an original Rock Pool embroidery by Jean James and also a painting by Thelma.

Tintagel will be without direct Post Office services for a number of day, until the middle of April, and they will then be available in the local supermarket.
