A LARGE delivery of food parcels was made to Launceston Foodbank this week.

Dunheved Residents’ Association was pleased with the response to its collection for the Launceston Foodbank.

Member Rosemarie Kennedy, who volunteers with the Foodbank, suggested the collection, and another member who works at DS Smith enlisted the help of the packaging company, which provided cardboard boxes.

The boxes were delivered to houses in the residents’ association’s area with a leaflet from the Foodbank, explaining the kind of things they were looking for.

The boxes were collected a couple of days later — more than 60 boxes containing groceries — with a further bigger box yet to be collected from Manaton Court.

Travina White from the residents’ association said the association tries to do things of benefit to the community.

She added: “People have been very generous. We were not sure what kind of response we would get. It is so nice so many people did contribute. There was no pressure put on people, we just collected the empty boxes if they didn’t want to do it. The boxes were filled to capacity. People even left out carrier bags as well as a box!

“DS Smith were very generous. It was a local effort. The Foodbank were delighted, and wondering where to put it all!”

The association publicises its upcoming events on the noticeboard on Dunheved Road.

The Launceston Foodbank’s charity shop, on Newport Industrial Estate is open Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm.
