RESIDENTS in Trewen Parish have recently joined an online social network called ‘Next Door’, which is specifically designed to connect neighbours together.

They have discussed and shared comments on such subjects of speeding traffic and broadband, as well as advertising parish events.

Recently, after watching TV coverage of the devastation following the recent hurricanes in the Caribbean, the ‘Next Door’ group discussed whether something could be done as a community to help those in need.

In just a few days an event was arranged, advertised and held at Pipers Pool Methodist Schoolroom.

Neighbours came together on September 24 with home baking, serving cream teas, knitting, bric-a-brac, tombola, guessing the weight of lambs and a silent auction of prints by a local artist.

People came from near and far to support the event. One of the organisers said: “It was an amazing response and a fantastic event. I am delighted to report that £900 has been sent to Shelterbox as a gift from the Next Door neighbours in Pipers Pool and Trewen.
