RESIDENTS of Launceston aged one to 100 celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday at a street party in the town on Sunday.
Pre-booked tables and people walking through the square were able to enjoy the atmosphere, with live music and entertainment for all ages.
During the afternoon in the town hall, a birthday tea prepared and served by St Stephens WI was enjoyed by residents who have or will be celebrating a 90th birthday this year, and their invited guests. The birthday day tea included a special Corgi shaped cake.
A few members of the town band paid a visit to the town hall to play a few tunes for the birthday tea guests to enjoy.
One lady in Launceston hospital was very disappointed she could not attend the party so the mayor Brian Hogan and deputy mayor Margaret Young went to visit her at the end of the day and took some treats from the tea party.
The event was organised by a working group of four people — town mayor Brian Hogan, mayoress Anita White, Celia Knight and Val Bugden-Cawsey, under the wing of Launceston Town Square Events, and the group expressed thanks to all of the sponsors who contributed to the celebrations, as well as special thanks to Andrew and Terry from the Town Hall along with Terry’s two sons who worked so hard behind the scenes setting up the square and town hall and packing it all away after the event.
Thanks were also expressed to all the entertainers and side stalls, and to town crier Rob Tremain for making all of the announcements.
Anita White, Launceston Town Square Events, said: “What made the day so special was the local community spirit and we would like to thank all of the people who attended.”
