RESIDENTS are invited to take part in this year's Holsworthy in Bloom competition.

At a meeting of Holsworthy Town Council on Wednesday, May 6, the town clerk, Mrs Clare Dalley said: "We're looking to open it up to businesses and any properties in Holsworthy."

There will be two categories this year — one for business premises and one for residential properties, and trophies and certificates will be awarded to the winners of each category.

Mrs Dalley said it would be nice if one day the town could enter the Britain in Bloom competition, and the decision to add residents' properties to the town's competition was "one step to raising the profile of Holsworthy."

Waitrose, who have acquired the town's Somerfield store, have agreed to sponsor the competition to the tune of £500.

Application forms will be available from town clerk's office (4 The Square, Holsworthy) from Monday and will need to be returned by June 28. The competition will be judged during St Peter's Fair Week, which this year runs from July 4 to 11.
