AN INITIAL planning application for the development of 22 homes on land west of South Lynstone Farm, Upton, has met no objection by Bude-Stratton Town Council.
But residents near the proposed site fear homes there will be intrusive, a flood risk and dangerous for road users.
The residents attended the town council planning meeting last Thursday and claimed the plans encroach on the scenic coastal area, the new properties would overlook their properties, it would cause a traffic hazard at the site entrance and that houses next to the planned site would suffer greater drainage problems.
Residents said the community plan was initially of the agreement that there would be no building works done on the local area as it sat on the scenic coastline. They felt the proposed development would set a precedent that could open the doors to further inappropriate schemes along the coast.
Residents said the site gradient regularly produced a substantial flow of water that resulted in flooding against banks at the lower end of the field.
One resident added that it was already a very wet area with water running onto the gardens and patios of properties facing the field, an issue that would be made worse if the proposed scheme went ahead without extensive drainage works.
