RESIDENTS and staff at Cedar Grange nursing home had a wonderful time recently, enjoying ‘Time for a Cuppa’ events in aid of Dementia UK.
By providing compassionate support and guidance through the provision of admiral nurses, Dementia UK helps families live more positively with dementia. This is a cause close to the heart of Cornwall Care, which also provides expert support and engaging activities for people with dementia in their homes and the community.
Time for a Cuppa is a national event where people are encouraged to hold cake sales, tea parties and fundraisers to help support families with dementia.
At Cedar Grange in Launceston, staff and residents held a delightful coffee morning and cake competition, inviting friends, family and guests to join in the fun.
Alison Venning, Cedar Grange customer relations administrator, said: “We had a wonderful coffee morning in aid of Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa. We had a good turnout of family, friends and guests, as well as staff and our residents.”
Prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners of the cake baking competition, and there were plenty of entries to choose from. Robert Black, chief executive of Cornwall Care, joined the panel of judges for the Best of Show cake and Best Cup Cakes entries.
The judges awarded the Best of Show cake award to Fred Bramham, a resident, for his strawberry cream sponge.
The Best Cup Cakes award went to the Chapman Suite residents. Martin Leyland, one of the residents, accepted the certificate and trophy on their behalf.
Sally Bramham, Fred’s sister, and a member of the activity team, had assisted with the baking activities the day before and all four resident suites had entered.
Alison added: “It was a happy and successful event. Our thanks go to Bev, our senior nurse, and to the activity team, who organised this fundraiser for dementia. We raised £260, and are still collecting.”
