THE standards of grass cutting at a cemetery in Launceston will be looked into by the town council, after one resident said the state the cemetery was left in made him feel ‘ashamed’.
George Logg attended the meeting of Launceston Town Council on Tuesday, October 18, and voiced his concerns regarding the cemetery, situated off Moorland Road.
He said: “The last three weeks I had occasion to go out to the cemetery.”
He said he was not sure who has the responsibility of the grass strimming at the cemetery, but added there is grass hanging around, ‘on the graves, headstones, everywhere’.
“The grass flies up over the flowers, everywhere. I was quite ashamed how bad it was,” he added.
He said in particular, black headstones were affected, with the grass cut when wet and ‘sticking’ to the headstones.
He added: “It’s done quickly obviously and the grass is not being picked up which is making a terrible mess.”
Mayor Cllr Brian Hogan said: “Our town clerk will deal with whatever is happening at the cemetery and if the standard is below what’s expected, something will be done about it.”
