SEVENTY-FIVE years since a plane crashed at Stowe Barton, Kilkhampton near Duckpool during World War Two a relative of the pilot is planning a visit to learn more about their heritage.
The plane crashed on January 17, 1942, and is one being researched by Graham Moore, along with Stephen Heal, who have both been assisting Robert Palmer — creator of www.britishmilitaryhistory.co.uk
Mr Moore has done extensive research into the crash and has been able to contact relatives of the pilot Jack Warburton and the observer Teddie Sillitoe, who both perished in the crash.
He said: “I am in touch with relatives of both the pilot Jack Warburton and the observer Teddie Sillitoe. Jack Warburton’s sister is still living aged 95 in a residential home in Texas, and her son wishes to visit very soon called Odie Waters.”
Mr Moore said Odie is planning a ‘real history trip’ for later this year in an attempt to discover more about his ancestory.
Mr Moore said: “[Odie] is coming to visit in October, from Texas. He is planning a real history trip, trying to trace his family history in Jersey, and in Braunton.”
During Odie’s visit it is hoped they will be able to visit his uncle’s grave, which is in the military cemetery overlooking Chivenor.
