A FULL scale replica of a classic Spitfire, which has been built in a shed in Delabole, is on its way to America.

The model was commissioned by the United States Air Force as a memorial to Bill Dunn, a US pilot who served as a volunteer with the RAF before America entered World War Two.

He flew a Spitfire Mk IIA P7308, which belonged to the 71 (Eagle) Squadron, and it was damaged on August 27, 1941 during an air battle with German aircraft. He went on to shoot down two BF109s German planes.

Mr Dunn retired from the USAF as Lieutenant Colonel in 1973 and died in 1995.
