I WHOLLY endorse what Graham Brown of Lydney stated when he made reference to installation of solar panels at Seven Valley Woodworks and Cllr Preest's letter about wind power failing to be the way forward.

The district council should draft a power and renewables planning policy which covers not just the short-term but the future in its implementation and integration within the community.

Just having solar panels on new affordable housing alone, is not the only solution!

When will the politicians and councils understand that having renewable solar power panels, both thermal and PV (photo-voltaic), installed on all public and commercial buildings, schools, and private dwellings will reduce costs to the consumer at the-point-of-use?

There is plenty of empirical data out there to prove cost-reduction through intrinsic consumption during the day and at the same time feed into the wider electricity grid. Generally, society needs to understand it's a better future than relying on fossil fuels to keep the lights on.

Notwithstanding the arguments that once it's dark there is no power from solar, more investigations need to be done to develop storage during the day so that people can continue to draw electricity during night-time.

Water power has been woefully ignored, especially as in Lydney we have water courses and the river running through the town.

I'm sure a few water turbines, strategically placed, could provide power both day and night, as water flow is not restrained by darkness!
