THERE was a cross-border effort when The ReFill Shop, Bude, worked alongside The Den in Holsworthy to collect a vast amount of donations for the Ukrainian people.

The directors and volunteers of The ReFill Shop in Bude were compelled by the plight of the Ukrainian people and knowing that local people wanted to help too, offered the shop at 3 Lansdown Mews as a drop of point for donations.

Working with their partners at The Den in Holsworthy who have an established network of volunteers on the ground in Poland, Hungary and Romania, they have so far sent a container of nappies, formula, baby food and period products to those in need — 90% of the people who have crossed the border are women and children.

A spokesperson said: “Refill are committed to supporting them as long as is needed.”

They have been overwhelmed, but not surprised by the generosity of the people of Bude who are behind this endeavour 100%.
