THE Holsworthy Rural Ward is set to become the largest single county councillor ward with the most parishes in Devon.

The Boundary Commission’s recommendation stated that from 2017 the division will carry four additional parishes, bringing its total up to thirty.

The Holsworthy Rural Ward will now contain: Abbots Bickington, Ashwater, Black Torrington, Bradford, Bradworthy, Bridgerule, Broadwoodwidger, Buckland Brewer, Bulkworthy, Clawton, Cookbury, East Putford, Halwill, Hollacombe, Holsworthy, Holsworthy Hamlets, Luffincott, Milton Damerel, Newton St Petrock, Northcott, Pancrasweek, Pyworthy, Shebbear, Sheepwash, St Giles on the Heath, Sutcombe, Tetcott, Thornbury, West Putford and Virginstow.

Torridge District Council leader and cabinet member for performance and engagement Cllr Barry Parsons said: “During consultation on the Boundary Commission’s (BC) draft recommendations submissions regarding the proposed Holsworthy Rural division included only two submissions in support of the BC original proposal.

“As part of the BC final recommendations it is confirmed the continued inclusion of the parish of Bradworthy, for which I am delighted, is to remain within Holsworthy Rural.

“I welcome our new parishes and look forward to a strong and inclusive future within Holsworthy Rural.”
