JAMAICA Inn on Bodmin Moor was start and finish for the annual New Year's Day Brown Willy Run, which attracted a record number of participants.

The seven mile run across Bodmin Moor to the summit of Brown Willy, the highest tor in Cornwall at 1,378 feet, raised £1,400, which will be divided between the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team, which attends the event each year, and WIRED Cornwall, a stroke and brain injury rehabilitation centre, based near Truro.

Richard Willson from Truro Running Club, which hosts the event, said previously the record number of runners was about 318, but this year 364 took part.

He added: "Previously the record amount raised a couple of years ago was just over a thousand, but this year it is £1,400, which I think is testament to the generosity of the Cornish runners.

"It couldn't take place without the co-operation of Jamaica Inn and the local landowners and tenant farmers."
