THERE was a fantastic turnout to this year’s Bridgerule Revel Week Summer Show, with record numbers of entries to the various competitions.

Between midday and 2pm on Tuesday, July 25, Bridgerule people were asked to enter their various items in the ‘Summer Show’ held in the Village Hall. Superb artwork was on display as well as stunning embroidery, children’s decorated pebbles, wooden items, one lovely glass bowl, lots of knitted items and even Lego models. There were beautiful flower arrangements in baskets, ten light and fluffy Victoria sandwiches for the judge to taste and decide on, as well as quiches and tasty biscuits.

A special long table was showing just what Bridgerule gardeners could produce. Vegetables of all shapes, sizes and colours were there on display, which caused a lot of interest and hopefully may encourage others to take part next year. The overall winner, Mr Chris Hitchings retaining the perpetual cup for adults and Miss Holly Price winning the children’s entries.

The doors opened at 7pm for both children and adults to find if they had managed to win any rosettes, with occasional kind comments written alongside their entries by the various judges.

Both Sarah Coleman and Rose Hitchings, who organised the Summer Show, were delighted with the 161 entries this year, which seems to get more popular every year. Many thanks to everyone who helped, including the judges and those who put entries in the show.

At the same time as the hall doors opened, the ‘Fun Dog Show’ began in the car park outside and again this was really well attended by both dog owners, their handsome animals and a good crowd of keen onlookers. On the whole there were very few growls and disagreements between the various canine competitors, and the dog owners also seemed content and very happy with the judges decisions applauding loudly after each section. It was yet another popular dog show with 15 different classes to enter and with lovely prizes given. Yogi, who is owned by Helen Shotton from Bradworthy, won ‘Best in Show’. Thanks were expressed to Alan Bewes who kept the event flowing with his comments on the loud speaker announcing the various winners and also the dog show judge Julie Pike and her assistant Ashley Pike.

Thanks were also expressed to the hard working revel committee, the various helpers and especially Sheila and Colin Cholwill who took on most of the organisation.
