Doc Martin stars Dame Eileen Atkins and Ian McNeice, introduced as 'our two favourite locals', officially opened the PISCES (Port Isaac Shared Community Exibition Space) World War Two exhibition and launched the group's new book, A Second Helping of Port Isaac.

It was no coincidence that the date was May 8 — 70 years to the day since D-Day and the celebrations at the end of World War Two.

But the evening was not just about celebration, it was also a commemoration to the men and women from the parish who lost their lives in this war — they are all remembered in the exhibition as well as some of the survivors.

The exhibition is now open every day (except during church services) at St Peter's Church, Port Isaac, and very soon everything on display will be added to the PISCES website.

The church was packed to the gunnels — standing room only — and the evening concluded with wartime songs from Gulls, a ten-strong group of women singers from the Port Isaac area. They ended with a special and very moving tribute in their last song, 'Think of Me', when Ian McNeice read out the names of those from Port Isaac who lost their lives in the war.

The celebration part of the event came with the launch of 'A Second Helping of Port Isaac' — even more recipes and yarns. The book is particularly special to both Dame Eileen and Ian as they have contributed recipes and stories to the publication.
